Are we related?
Hello Wheaten Lovers!
I'm wondering if anyone out there has a dog (or dogs) related to mine?
I thought it would be fun to see how many "siblings" I could find.
Murphy came to us 8 years ago (2008) from Lee Caron at Clover Kennels in Winnipeg and Finn came to us this past April (2016) from Karen Christian at Christian Doodles in Alberta.
If you are related please post a comment and share a link to your blog/instagram in the comment area.
Here is a quick collage of my Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers - Murphy and Finn - as puppies.
They are similar looking but so different in personality.
I'd forgotten how much black Murphy had on his face compared to Finn.
Finn is a go-getter (aka hyper puppy) and Murphy is very laid back.
Let's see how many relatives we can find!

Finn's First Trim
Finn's fur was growing all over his face and butt so I took him to the groomers for a quickie trim.
Now we can see his pretty eyes!
Finn's First Bath
Finn's fur is growing so fluffy and he's picking up all the "debris" from the rolling around in the yard.
We gave him a bath in the kitchen sink.
And then wrapped him in a big towel.
He wasn't too happy about it but he did smell fresher afterwards!

Funn with Finn
We've had our new puppy Finn for 4 weeks now. He is officially 3 months old (13 weeks).
He's settling in nicely with our family routine and is now at that biting/nipping stage that all puppies get to when they are tired/playful/teething etc.
We are trying to correct this behaviour but it's so difficult (and painful).
He has learned a lot in the short time we've had him.
He knows how to sit and wait for his food bowl to be put down.
He is sleeping through the night - wakes up at 6am for a pee break but then goes back into his crate for a few more hours of sleep.
His favourite sleeping spot is inside the family room ottoman.
Or curled up in his bed with a favourite stuffy.
He is getting used to him name Finn but at first he was coming to "good boy" even when we said it to Murphy.
He is not a fan of walking on leash and gets tired easily.

Meet Finnegan aka "Finn"
We are so pleased to announce a new addition to our family....FINN!!!
Finn is an Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier - just like our other dog Murphy.
Here is a pic of both dogs together
Even though Finn has a lighter face than most Wheaten puppies his coat will still lighten up a lot.
It's hard to believe that Finn will one day look "wheaten" like Murphy.
Here's Murphy as a puppy - he was much darker in the face and body than Finn.
Finn comes to us from Karen Christian (ChristianDoodles.com) in Alberta.
Karen was so good at keeping in touch (text) and sending us photos of the puppies as they were growing.
Since Finn was coming to us from so far we trusted her to pick out the right puppy for us.
He's only been with us for over a week now but he's a perfect fit for our family and we love him!!!

Murphy Talks
Murphy is a talker - well it seems like talking to me but really it's just whining/growling and various other noises with head movement.
Listen for yourself...
He is "communicating" to me that he wants his dinner. I want you to know that he is not starving and hungry whining for food.
He was fed this morning, a big breakfast, and we normally feed him again at 5 pm.
This campaign for an early dinner started at 4pm!

Dog Tired
Sarah was home for a few days for reading break and we took Murphy for a long walk.
When we got home he was dog tired!!
But if you say the words "go", "ride", "out", or "walk" he perks up again.
He is ready to go anytime!

Murphy
It's been a while since I updated this blog so here are some current pics of Murphy.
I was changing Sarah's bed sheets and when I came back to make the bed I found Murphy here.
I had to take a picture because this is not normal behaviour.
Our dogs don't sleep in our beds - they never used to come upstairs at all.
Yesterday I took Murphy for a walk along the Ambleside sea wall.
He's a bit lonely these days so it's nice for him to get out and mix with other dogs.
He has really attached himself to Jackson.
They love to cuddle and now he sleeps on the floor in Jackson's room.
I really miss having 2 dogs in the house. If it were up to me we'd each have a dog!!
Murphy misses having a playmate for sure!
We are considering getting another dog soon.
It's nice to have dogs in the house - to spread the love and run around with!

Princess
My first dog was named Princess.
I think I was 8 when we got her and she lived to be 15.
She was a great family dog!
She didn't mind being dressed up by 3 girls and would go hunting with my dad!
